Ankole Cattle in Stellenbosch

At Benella Ankole we believe in quality over quantity.

Our love for Ankole longhorns started in 2012 when Daniel Naudé set out on a journey to photograph and document Ankole cattle in Uganda. While travelling in this country, running between large herds with his Hasselblad film camera, he was introduced to words such as bihongo and bogondo – the words that serve to capture the qualities of these majestic African longhorns.

These powerful words ignited a passion that ultimately saw Daniel establish the first Ankole Stud in the Western Cape. Situated on Yonder Hill wine farm, at the foot of the Helderberg Mountains in Stellenbosch, lies Benella Ankole Stud. Its story is close to our heart, that’s why the name derives from the names Daniel’s two children, Benjamin and Ella Naudé
